Cheapest name labels

What name labels actually cost, how to calculate the price per label, and why the cheapest package is rarely the cheapest purchase.

Name labels rarely cost more than a couple of hundred kronor, but the difference between brands is greater than it appears. A package costing 120 kr can be more expensive per label than one costing 139 kr, depending on how many labels you get. This page shows you how to calculate it, what drives the price and when it is worth paying a little more. We sell name labels ourselves, and we say plainly when others are cheaper.

How to calculate the price per name label

The package price says almost nothing, because the number of labels per set varies greatly between brands. Calculate it this way instead.

  1. Divide the price by the number of labels. 139 kr for 124 labels comes to 1.12 kr per label. 120 kr for 72 labels comes to 1.67 kr per label. The more expensive package is therefore cheaper per label.
  2. Add the shipping cost. A low package price with 45 kr shipping can be more expensive than a higher price with free shipping. Calculate the total you actually pay at checkout.
  3. Only count labels you will use. A large set in the wrong size is not cheap. If you need to label pencils and pacifiers, it is the small labels that matter, not how many large ones you got as a bonus.

Three calculations and you will know what you are actually paying. That is the whole trick.

What makes name labels expensive or cheap?

The biggest single factor is how many labels you get. Set sizes in the category range from around 30 labels to more than 170, and the price rarely follows the quantity directly. That is why the price per label is the only meaningful measure for comparison.

Small labels are cheaper to produce than large ones, so you usually get more of them for your money. A set of large labels typically contains significantly fewer labels than a standard set, across all brands.

Colour printing, the number of design options and material quality affect the price. A label printed in several colours at high resolution has a higher unit cost than one printed in a single colour.

Shipping terms differ more than prices. Some brands always offer free shipping, while others only do so above a threshold. Promotions such as three-for-two or percentage discounts can completely reverse the ranking for a period, which is another reason to calculate it yourself at checkout instead of relying on a list.

How much do name labels cost, roughly?

As a benchmark, name labels in this category cost roughly one to two kronor per label. Ikast Etikett states this rule of thumb itself. Under one krona per label is unusual, and above two kronor you are usually paying for size, licensed designs, or a premium range.

When do cheap name labels become expensive?

The most common complaint about genuinely cheap name labels is not the price, but that they come off. The same story keeps coming up in parenting forums: the labels stayed on for a few washes and then disappeared, leaving the garment unmarked again. A label that comes off has cost you both the money and the garment it was supposed to protect.

Consider what it costs to replace a garment. A winter overall costs several hundred kronor. Against that, the difference between SEK 1.12 and SEK 1.67 per label is negligible. The point is not that expensive is better, but that the price per label only matters if the label stays on.

There is also one simple thing that costs nothing: attach the label correctly. A self-adhesive name label should be placed on the care label, not directly on the fabric, and it needs 24 hours before the first wash. Most labels that come off were attached incorrectly from the start, regardless of the brand.

Where is Lappu located?

Lappu costs SEK 139 for 124 name labels, or SEK 1.12 per label without a discount code. That is at the lower end of the category's range, and lower per label than several brands that look cheaper based on the package price. However, we are not always the cheapest per package: if you want to spend as few kronor as possible at checkout on a single purchase, there are brands priced below us, especially during promotions. What we can say is that you get a low price per label with 60°C wash resistance, dishwasher and tumble-dryer compatibility, a rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 43 reviews, and your money back if you are not satisfied.

Frequently asked questions

How much do name labels cost?

As a rule of thumb, name labels cost approximately one to two kronor per label. A typical set costs between SEK 120 and SEK 200, depending on the number of labels, size, and printing. Always calculate the price per label, not per package.

Which name labels are cheapest?

It depends on whether you mean per package or per label. Some brands have a lower package price but fewer labels, resulting in a higher price per label. Lappu costs SEK 1.12 per label for 124 labels. Calculate it yourself at checkout, since promotions often change the picture.

How do I calculate the price per name label?

Divide the package price by the number of labels and add the shipping cost. SEK 139 for 124 labels comes to SEK 1.12 per label. SEK 120 for 72 labels comes to approximately SEK 1.67 per label.

Are cheap name labels worse?

Not automatically. The price says more about set size and printing than about quality. What determines whether a label lasts is the material, where you attach it, and letting it cure for 24 hours before the first wash.

Why do prices vary so much between brands?

Above all, because the number of labels per set varies greatly, from around 30 to over 170. Size, color printing, and shipping terms also matter. Two packages at the same price can contain twice as many labels in one case.

Are name labels worth it?

Usually, quickly. A lost garment costs significantly more than a complete set of name labels, so finding its way home for just a couple of garments is enough to cover the cost.

Is shipping included in the price?

It varies between brands. Some always offer free shipping, while others only do so above a certain threshold. Since shipping can account for a third of the order value on a cheap set, it is worth calculating the total.

Is it cheaper to buy several sets?

Often, yes. Several brands offer volume discounts or promotions such as buy three, pay for two. If you need to label both clothes and small items anyway, it can be cheaper per label to buy two sizes at once than one set at a time.
